Camping tables come in all shapes and sizes. From small, lightweight tables suitable for hikers to something matching the size of your dining room table!
Which is the best camping table depends very much on the intended use? Small, light tables may feature canvas and aluminum, while larger tables may have sturdy steel frames and wood tabletops. As we’re focusing on tables for camping, weight is very important to keep in mind.

Camping Table FAQs
The 5 Best Camping Tables
Camping tables come in all shapes, sizes and weights. Below, we look at 5 of the best camping tables currently on the market.
1. Trekology Portable Camping Table
Weight: 1.8lbs – 3.2lbs
The Trekology Portable Camping Table is small enough to carry while hiking, lightweight, and made from durable aluminum. It’s perfect when space or weight is at a premium.
Supplied with a carry bag, the smallest Trekology table folds down to a tube of just 16 inches by 5.5 inches and weighs only 1.8 lbs. If you need more space, the table is available in three sizes, from large to small.
The tabletop is made from aircraft-grade aluminum and is available in various colors. Compared to tables with plastic tops, the Trekolgy table can withstand heavier weights and hot cooking pans, making it much more useful. A similar-sized table with a wooden top would be substantially heavier.
With a metal folding mechanism, the Trekology is simple to set up when you arrive at your destination, and easily folds down after use. No tools are required, and the sturdy steel frame can take up to 50 lbs in weight.
Rubber feet help to keep the table steady on rough ground and protect the steel frame.
- Aluminum tabletop
- Folding frame
- Low to the ground

2. Coleman Camping Table
Coleman is a name that hs long been synonymous with quality camping products, and this aluminum camping table is no exception.
The tabletop is made from sturdy aluminum slats that roll up for safe storage. Supporting the tabletop is a folding steel frame, coated to protect it against corrosion. Assembly is simply a case of opening the folding support legs and using the clips to secure the tabletop to the frame. Packing the Coleman camping table away is just as easy.
Once assembled, the camping table gives a working area of 27 inches by 27 inches, at a comfortable sitting height of 27 inches. The tabletop is just large enough for four people to sit around but folds down to a reasonable size of 8 by 8 by 28.5 inches.
This is not a table you will want to take hiking, as it is too heavy and large, but it’s small enough to be left in the trunk of your car, without getting in the way.
With quality materials and easy assembly, the Coleman camping table will give you years of service without breaking the bank.
- Easy assembly and dismantling
- Sturdy aluminum and steel design
- Folding design
- High enough to sit at comfortably
- Too big and heavy for hiking

3. ALPS Mountaineering Eclipse Camping Table
Unlike the other camping tables in this review, the ALPS Mountaineering Eclipse Table is made of canvas material, supported by a metal frame. The canvas is attached to the frame, so assembly is simply a case of pulling the supporting legs open and tightening the straps on the tabletop. All very quick and easy. The tautness of the tabletop can be adjusted as required, using the straps.
Below the tabletop is a second level, complete with built-in cup holders. This is a great feature, giving twice the amount of tabletop area and a secure place for cups and glasses.
The only real downside of the canvas tabletop is that it’s not as stable as the aluminum versions. You need the cupholders on the second level as you cannot put them safely on the top. The same applies if you are cooking at the campsite. The canvas top is not really suitable for placing a cutting board on, for example, or hot cooking pans.
It is lightweight and easy to set up as an additional camping table, but it has some limitations.
- Shelf under the tabletop
- Side pocket for storage
- Cup holders under the tabletop
- Not very compact
- Not as strong as aluminum tables
- Not as stable as aluminum tables

4. Lifetime Height Adjustable Craft Camping Table
The Lifetime Craft and Camping Table is a different take on outdoor tables than the previous three. First, the table is much larger and bulky. It only folds in half, not down to a compact carry bag size, and it weighs nearly 20 pounds.
This table is for a different situation. It’s great for adding extra spaces when holding an outdoor celebration, for example. The design is robust, and stable, and can be set to four height settings between 22 inches and 36 inches.
Unlike the smaller camping tables on review here, the Lifetime Craft Table can be used for a whole range of purposes. It can be used for outdoor shows, trade shows, or for a craft hobby you enjoy.
The tough HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) top and powder-coated steel frame mean the table will shake off rain and other weather. The top is also safe in strong ultraviolet conditions.
For camping expeditions, it’s probably a little too big. The Lifetime does fold in half to a compact size but will take up a lot of space. The built-in carrying handle is a welcome feature.
- Tough polyethylene top
- Powder-coated steel frame
- Large surface area
- Built-in carry handle

5. CampLand Outdoor Folding Camping Table
When you need extra table space and more storage, the CampLand Outdoor Folding Table will probably be ideal. Along with a large folding camping table, you also get under table storage with two compartments.
The detachable tabletop is made of sturdy MDF, with an aluminum protective edge, and sits on a lightweight aluminum frame.
When set up, the table measures a useful 47 inches long and 18.5 inches deep. The height is adjustable between 24 and 27 inches, just the right height for working or eating.
When not in use, the CampLand camping table folds in half and has a built-in carry handle.
The CampLand stands out, thanks to the large storage area that is suspended underneath the tabletop. Split into two large compartments with closing flaps, they are perfect for storing plates, cutlery, glasses, or food.
One downside to the MDF top is that it’s not waterproof, so it must be covered if outdoors when it’s raining.
- Large, strong table
- Folds in half for storage
- Built in carry handle
- Two large storage compartments
- Strong – can hold up to 66 lbs
- Not weather resistant

What to Look for When Buying a Camping Table
Before buying a camping table, there are a few points to think about that we’ll cover here. But first, consider what your primary use of the table will be.
Will you be hiking and camping, driving to a campsite and setting up camp, or using the camping table for extra outdoor dining space at home?
The basic choices are canvas, plastic, metal, or wood. Canvas is light and easy to fold down, but won’t give you a solid working surface. Plastic or polyethylene is a lightweight and durable material. It is weatherproof, makes a solid worktop, and is stable. For metal, there is a choice of aluminum or steel.
Steel is not generally used as it is too heavy. Aluminum is lightweight, provides a stable work surface, is very durable, and corrosion-resistant. Wood or MDF (medium-density fibreboard) is heavy and dense. So, it makes a great worktop, but the weight limits the portability. Also, wood needs to be protected from the elements such as rain, which the others don’t need.
There are two points to consider when looking at the frame design of your camping table. The materials used and whether it is a folding design or a trellis type.
Steel frames are stronger but heavier than aluminum frames. The downside to steel is that it will need a protective coating to prevent corrosion, which the aluminum frame won’t need. For camping, aluminum is recommended, but for home use, the more robust steel frame may be more suitable.
Folding camping tables usually fold in half lengthways. Many will have a built-in carry handle to move it around easily. The trellis-style frames collapse down to a much smaller size, so it will be preferable when space is an issue.
The height of your camping table is not an essential consideration if you want a small, lightweight table to take hiking. However, when you drive to a campsite, and space is not a limiting factor, ease of use becomes more critical.
Most of the larger camping tables have adjustable legs that allow you to set the height at various levels. Somewhere around 28 or 30 inches is a reasonable height for both working and eating.
Some of the larger tables come with additional features such as storage compartments. As you increase the price and size, it is possible to find what is essentially a portable kitchen. But for most, this will be far more than they are looking for.
At a campsite, where storage space may be limited, the addition of extra space under your camping table will be convenient.
A wide variety of camping tables are available, and what will be the best camping table for you depends on a range of factors.
If you are a hiker, then lightweight and small folded size are the key deciders. Since you are camping and most likely sit on the floor, the table’s height is unimportant. You just need something robust and light. The Trekology Portable Camping Side table, with a light aluminum top, could be just the thing.
On a camping vacation with family, where you drive to the campsite and set up camp, space is less of an issue. Here, a convenient working height, and not necessarily weight, is probably the primary factor, followed by size and the ease of setting up. The Lifetime Height Adjustable Craft and Camping Table would be a great choice or the CampLand Outdoor Folding Table with its additional storage.
Some people use camping tables to extend their outdoor eating area for events or celebrations. Others use them for trade shows and exhibitions. In these cases, ease of setting up and strength will be important. Again, the Lifetime Height Adjustable camping table is suitable for its easy setup and durable worktop.
