Most 2 person fishing kayaks, aka tandem fishing kayaks, are longer than the average kayak, so they’ll fit in all the extra gear needed for two. Inflatable kayaks are made of much tougher vinyl materials than your average garden pool. They’re usually treated to be UVA and puncture resistant as well as saltwater resilient too.

You might want a 2 person sit-on-top fishing kayak. Or, you might prefer to remove the to seats and sit on the bottom inside of the craft. This is an option available with most inflatable kayaks.
We haven’t separated ocean kayak versus river kayak because these larger crafts are excellent for both. This is due to their extra length and weight. Inflatables tend to be wider than hard-shelled kayaks, so they’re not built for speed. Then again, who wants to rush with an outdoor activity such as a relaxing fishing trip.

2 Person Kayak Buying Guide
Whilst 2 person kayaks aren’t suitable for moving at speed, they are capable of providing you with safe transportation. Most especially on a day’s fishing trip on any lake or smooth river. Hang out your fishing rod on the molded mounts, then sit back and enjoy the scenic surroundings.
Most are suitable for shoreline fishing in the sea too. So you can enjoy a little ocean fishing if you prefer saltwater catches. Take in the aroma of the salty seawater as you enjoy the outdoor sport of sea fishing.
How-To Fish From a Kayak?
Distribute your gear so the heaviest load is in the center. The lightest items should be at the very ends of the stern and bow. Medium loads should also be stored at the front and back, but not at the tips. Make sure you place the most wanted fishing tackle nearest to you so you’re not forced to rock the boat as you rummage around.
To climb in, crouch with knees bent at the side of your kayak, facing the bow (front). You should be standing on land, with the water on the other side of the craft. Hold the kayak steady with one of the paddles, holding it behind your back as you ease your leg over the side. Stretch out your legs once in there, and bring your paddle to the front, readying to row. Push away using the paddle.
Watch this demonstration for clearer instructions:
Hold the mid-point of the paddle with both hands. If you pull back the paddle in the water you will go forwards. To move backward, push the paddle part that’s in the water, away from you. Experience will improve your rowing technique.
If you don’t want to drift once you’ve found your spot, attach a folding anchor, stake-out pole, or drift chute onto your craft. The higher you sit in the kayak, the more the wind will affect you. You will need to purchase the anchor separately, in our reviewed kayaks.
The wider your kayak then the more stable it will be as you move around. A broad width can slow movement down, but that doesn’t matter if speed isn’t important. When fishing, make use of the fitted rod holders to help with stability.
Should you capsize in the water, here’s some useful information on how to get back in your overturned craft.
As you paddle around in the waters, use a fish finder to make sure you find the perfect spot. Many fish finders also track the rocks and debris so they’re handy to carry with you. Make sure you also take along the perfect backpack designed specifically to hold all your fishing tackle and more. Though pack wisely and include some safety equipment too, such as a whistle, GPS and tent.
The beauty of inflatable kayaks is that you don’t need a trailer or a roof rack. Most of them fold up into the provided carry bags so you can throw them in the boot of your car.
Keep safe on your trip by taking all the right precautions. Always let someone know where you’ll be and when you plan to be back. If you’re a beginner at fishing, here are some great tips to make sure your day is a successful one.
